You may be wondering why an editor and columnist for Gannett would start this project.

First let me explain that my career hasn’t changed – I’m still the loyal editor and columnist for YOU magazine, HomeStyle and MomsLikeMe magazine. I started this project (with work’s blessing) because:

-         I wanted to do something independent of my Gannett titles. Working at Gannett for over 8 years and counting has taught me irreplaceable life lessons, but my job title has changed several times. I wanted a blog I can take with me, no matter what the future holds.

-         I wanted to feature all topics I care about – not just fashion, home and kids.

-         I wanted to be as personal as I please – believe it or not, there is a filter when I write for work.

Now, I need your help. Here are some ways you can help pave this new path.

-         Invite your friends and family to visit my blog and see if they like it. If they do, they can become a subscriber and get automatic updates when I write a new post.

-         Forward posts you like to people that need them. Use email, Facebook, Twitter, etc. The purpose of my blog is to help people – through my own self-improvement with topics for parents, lovers, friends and organizers after my own heart.

-         You can simply read my blog.

-         Comment on my blog posts.

-         Give me ideas for future posts.

-         Read my blog again.

Thank you for walking this path with me. Here’s a sampling of what you’ll find here, three times each week:

Over the past few years, I have followed Melissa as a writer and editor, taking on projects that primarily were related to “fashion, trends and what is popular.” Over the past 12-24 months, especially, I’ve come to realize how Melissa has interwoven substantive and positive content into what I used to look at as “flitty” topics. Her growth as an editor, and her ever-growing awareness for real action has made me one of her biggest fans. The spotlight Melissa has shown, through her job with Gannett, has put into perspective issues surrounding justice, fair trade, charity, supporting local communities and businesses, environmentalism, and more. Through her readership, which grows constantly, she has led tens of thousands of her readers to action in positive ways. I hope that everyone will read and follow this blog and commend Melissa on a great new venture!

I am so proud of my daughter Melissa. I would go to the local libraries when they were having a cleansing of their shelves, and bring home loads of books for her to read because I would run out. That sure has paid off. With her love of reading came her love and desire to write. It’s nice to see someone fullfilling their life-long goal and dream. With her lifes lessons, which I know have been many and are still a family occurance now and again, she will do well to encourage…live…love…laugh… We all love you
