Moods are like a game of chance. You never know what you’re gonna get.
Sometimes in a haze of reason, I feel down. I get a little irritated. And this feeling affects my whole life – work, fitness motivation, family time, writing.
When you can’t put a finger on your mood, then follow this advice.
Come to your senses.
Rest your face on a soft, fleece blanket.
Listen to your favorite Pandora station.
Spritz lavender on your pillow. Breathe.
Curl into your lover’s soft neck.
Hug a person or pet.
Drink chamomile tea, wine or ice-cold water.
Watch a movie like Anne of Green Gables.
Feel the path beneath your feet on a run.
Put your hand over your heart. As you breathe in, think I cherish myself. Breathe out: I cherish all beings.
Stretch into a yoga pose. Feel the strength of your awesome body at work.
Go for a drive.
Ask someone you love to tell you a story. Shh.
Stare out the window for 10 minutes.
Yes, there it is.

Great advice- tapping into our senses is a powerful thing- especially those warm and cuddly senses. Very poetic

@ Meg – Thanks for your comment. Another way to calm down is to lay a hot washcloth on your face and breathe deeply. Ahhhh …
Aside from the effective advice you have given here, may I also add that taking a walk and enjoying the view is also helpful.
@ Walter – Definitely agree! Except it is so cold out right now … spring can come now!
Lovely, Melissa. I’m getting an easy, peaceful feeling after reading this. Thanks.
@ Belinda – Thanks for that sweet comment.
When I really need a lift, I always enjoy taking a warm shower. Usually does the trick and I start feeling better right away!
Another trick I learned from a Tony Robbins books was to make a list of things that will empower you and make you feel better no matter what. I have a list of about 100 things that I can do to get my mind focused on the positive things in my life. I might have to add some of your ideas to my list now! Thanks for sharing!
@ Matt – Warm shower – good idea! Everyone automatically thinks “bath,” but I’ll bet a shower has a very similar, soothing effect.
What are some of the things on your empowerment list? That’s really intriguing.
Number one way to destress–a warm, no, HOT, shower. I sure missed those when I was in Africa and every time I go ‘home’ to the island to visit the inlaws!
Goodness! Sorry I didn’t answer your question! I need to find a better way to track all the blogs that I am commenting on! If you still want to know, here are a few from my list!
-Go for a run
-Meditate
-Play with my cats!
-Work on my dream board!
-Clean and Organize
-Take a small action towards one of my goals
-Play a video game!
These are just some examples of things that I know will always make me feel better, and I try to add things to it often. Thanks for asking! Sorry again for missing your response.
@ Matt – that’s ok, I understand – I’m glad you replied with these. Maybe I’ll write a post to help people create a list. Thanks for the inspiration.
I call my kids
Tell them I love them
Play with my dogs
Clean
@ Deeg – Good list! I would recommend caffeine free tea, too. Chamomile or ginger … mmmm…
Just found your blog. Loved this post. Will be spending an evening reading more when time allows. THANKS so much for sharing!
Awesome! Please keep in touch and thanks for reading.
