Do you ever have those days when it feels like, no matter how much you do, or accomplish, or help … it’s never good enough?
Do you ever feel like you’ll:
- Never spend enough time with the people you love?
- Never have a clean, minimal and organized home?
- Never do enough amazing work?
- Never get that hot, washboard stomach?
Me too.
The guilt of imperfection is an epidemic, sweeping its ugly way through the ranks of women everywhere. If we’re close friends, you’ve probably heard me say, “No self-loathing,” when you get down on yourself. Well, today, I wanted to tell everyone, even myself, because I really believe we need to hear it:
No self-loathing. Got it?
I know we’re pulled in a million directions at once. I know we have families, careers, projects, homes and a weakness for homemade apple pie. But the self-loathing won’t help. It will make us weak, make us lose focus, and worst of all, make us give up.
The world doesn’t any more guilt or self-loathing. It needs a boost, it needs our light, our energy. It needs women that feel strong, ready to make a difference.
It’s time to kill the guilt.
We’ll never be perfect, nobody is, but we can be excellent. So today, I want to ask if you’ll join me in killing the guilt of imperfection. You are not perfect, I am not perfect, but in some way, we are amazing. Do you feel it? I hope so. Someone you know loves all your quirky imperfections. Someone you know wants you to kill the guilt. Be kind to yourself. Try:
Less self-loathing; more acceptance
Less critical; more compliments
Less doing it all; more doing one thing well
Less counting calories; more counting blessings
Less pinching our belly fat; more pinching ourselves awake from dreams
Less inadequate; more enough

Thanks for the post Melissa! It hits home “perfectly”.
Thank you!! You’re right, we all need to hear this. We’re often our own harshest critics and it really does no good for anyone.
Spot on once again! This was great to read before I go into a meeting today with a co-worker who has a way of putting people down, to make herself feel adequate. Maybe I should print this out for her to read!
Ooo, that’s a bad habit to form (your co-worker). I’ll bet she doesn’t even realize she is doing it, either. Good luck with that! Looking forward to meditation!
great post Melissa….you’re continuing to help me accept my post-baby body. thanks for listening to my gripes and keeping me in line.
I’m glad, because I think you’re beautiful. Looking forward to yoga night! I won’t forget the mats!
